Description
A luscious piece depicting a young woman seated outdoors, her gaze lifted and slightly averted, is caught in the fractured light filtering through dense foliage. The floral dress consisting of bright yellow, coral and white dissolves at its edges into the surrounding brushwork with real elegance, recalling the alla prima confidence of Sorolla while carrying echoes of the American Impressionists, particularly Tarbell and Benson. The dappled light on the face is handled with particular assurance, with shadow and highlight placed decisively and without overworking. Dark, vigorously stroked foliage anchors the composition and throws the figure into luminous relief.
About Romain Eugene
Romain Eugene (1989 - Present) was born and raised in Normandy, where he developed an early fascination with drawing, shaped by the light and landscape of his native region. Years of dedicated study in workshops, life drawing sessions, and sustained independent practice laid the foundations for a career as an oil painter of considerable accomplishment.
Eugene's work occupies a position between realism and impressionism. Painting with speed and conviction, he prioritises light and colour, deploying bold brushwork and abstract forms. His influences are rooted in the Impressionist tradition, with a particular debt to Sorolla, Sargent, and Émile Friant.
