He was the son of noted art critic and writer August Brunius and began his formal studies at Otte Sköld’s painting school in Stockholm, continuing on at Bror Hjorth’s and Nils Möllerberg’s sculpture school between 1930 and 1931. He later attended the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1932 to 1937, while also studying abroad at Maison Watteau in Paris and at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, giving his artistic formation an international dimension.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eAs a painter, Brunius worked largely en plein air.
