Description
This striking landscape by Nils Ingvar Walterström reveals a bold, modern painterly approach, where structure and atmosphere emerge through expressive, gestural handling of paint. Biography
Nils Ingvar Walterström (1920–1988) was a Swedish painter and interior designer, born in Örebro. He studied at Konstskolan Idun Lovén in 1940, further continuing his art education between 1953 and 1962, while continuing to develop his practice through travel in Europe and independent work.
Originally trained in interior design, Walterström worked professionally in the field from the 1930s, later serving as a head interior decorator in the mid-1940s. Alongside this career, he produced paintings in oil and watercolour, focusing on landscapes, city views, and still lifes.
From the 1960s onward, his work gradually shifted toward more abstract and non-figurative expression, reflecting broader developments in post-war Swedish art. He exhibited in regional Swedish contexts, including the Vikingsberg Art Museum, and is represented in municipal collections in Sweden. Walterström died in 1988 in Sweden, leaving a varied body of work spanning representational and abstract approaches.
