Born on 24 April 1850 in Horn, Östergötland, he was the son of a cobbler, and the rural lakes and forests of his native region would become a lasting source of inspiration throughout his career. Thörne studied at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1874 to 1880 under the landscape painter Per Daniel Holm. Upon graduating, he was awarded a royal medal for one of his landscapes (called \u003cem\u003eSummer Morning\u003c\/em\u003e), signaling early recognition for his talent.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eIn 1884 he received a travel scholarship that enabled him to spend two years in Germany, France, Italy, and Belgium. Exposure to European plein-air painting and French naturalism had a lasting impact on his artistic approach, particularly in his treatment of light, atmosphere, and open landscape. After returning to Sweden in 1886, he devoted himself primarily to depicting the forests, rivers, lakes, and farmsteads of regions such as Mälardalen, Dalarna, and Bergslagen.
